Story Introduction
This story follows the journey of unity and resilience in the Kingdom of Euchronia after the king’s assassination plunges the land into chaos. When the Royal Magic initiates a tournament to decide the new ruler, the protagonist and his fairy companion, Gallica, set out on a quest to break the curse on the presumed-dead prince. Along the way, they must join the tournament and forge alliances with the diverse tribes of the kingdom, proving that unity is essential to restore peace and secure the throne.
Review
As a new sword that Atlus has been sharpening for years, it has finally been unsheathed, but it’s not sharp enough. Atlus has always left a strong impression in the music department (although I didn’t particularly like it this time, as I still prefer Persona 5).
In terms of the battle system, the ability to clear enemies directly on the overworld map if you’re strong enough is a nice touch. However, the occasional sudden ambush right before defeating them, forcing you into combat, is very frustrating. That said, it’s an overall optimized design.
As for Atlus’ signature strength, UI design, while visually striking, there are parts that feel slightly mismatched, giving it an overall sense of disorder.
When it comes to the most crucial aspect of an RPG—its story—the characters introduced in the latter half feel almost irrelevant. While straightforward, classic plots usually don’t go wrong, the padding in this one is quite obvious.
Finally, about dungeon design: while it doesn’t feel intentionally annoying, the repetitive “crawl through a hole” mechanics and bland map traversal could really use some innovation.
As an Atlus fan, I’d give it a maximum of 8/10, but I wouldn’t actively recommend this game.
